Technorati: The Six Month Link Window

Updates: Technorati Tune-Up and Technorati and Hubspot Blog Grade

Technorati is a blog search engine. Technorati only searches in blogs, unlike Google which searches blogs and other types of websites. At Technorati, you can search for anything, just like you can search in Google but the Technorati will only return results from the in excess of 71 million blogs they have in their database.

WordPress pings Technorati automatically when you publish a post. Technorati operates on real time unlike Google so, your posts will appear on Technorati almost immediately and on Google days and even weeks later. However, as your blog increases in popularity, authority and page ranking the time lag for your posts appearing in Google searches will become shorter.

SiteMeter RSS Measurements Survey

At SiteMeter staff are working on a new feature; the ability to provide bloggers or sites with blog pages in particular, with data on RSS activity. One of the new RSS data points SiteMeter plans to offer with “Premium accounts” is the ability to know which feed readers your subscribers are using to access your content.

“So we need your help to narrow down the top 10 feed readers. Those that do not make it into the top 10 will be grouped into an “other” category. When you have a moment please take our survey.”

Google analytics and wordpress.com statistics

Update: September 3, 2010

Staff have stated in this entry that we cannot have Google Analytics See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

We can use non-javascript third party stats programs on our blogs only as the software will strip javascript code out. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

Here are  links to reviews of the non-javascript third party stats programs we can use on wordpress.com blogs:

  1. Visitor tracking on WordPress.com blogs
  2. Real time visitor tracking (non-JavaScript) for blogs
  3. getclicky real time stats for wordpress.com blogs
  4. Two free unique visitor counters for wordpress.com blogs

Google Analytics is free, powerful tool for tracking your website statistics. In early May, Google raised the bar again, launching a major upgrade to Google Analytics, featuring a slick new user interface and vastly improved features for slicing and dicing data and making comparisons across time and between sections of your site.

Not surprisingly bloggers do show up on the wordpress.com forum who want to use Google analytics. However, wordpress.com bloggers are sharing a multi-user blogging platform. Only one Google urchin script can be run on a any site at any time and, WordPress already runs Google analytics on our blogs to determine our blog stats.

WordPress.com bloggers do not have access to Google analytics that run on our blogs and, while it’s true that we can have 3rd party stats meters, they will not give you referrers as we can cannot use the counters that rely on javascript. We can only use html stat counters on wordpress.com blogs.

Can I have a stat counter on my blog?

Can I use javascript on my blog?

If you feel that this information is critical to your blogging experience then please note that there is another wordpress option for you. You can hire a web host and download free wordpress.org software.
