Twenty Eleven theme – sidebar on iPad/mobile device « WordPress.com Forums

Here’s a tip from the WordPress.com support forums that I want to share with mobile users.

I just installed Twenty Eleven theme and it’s working fine on the computer, however, when viewing on the iPad, none of my sidebar widgets show up on the side…they are all at the bottom of my posts.

By default, we turn on the “Minileven” theme when your site is viewed with a mobile device. It’s a special theme designed to make blogs easier to read on mobile devices. Sidebars are meant to appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.

  2. I don’t know if this might give a clue, but I often read blog posts with my windows resized so that I can focus just on the articles column (I started to doing this in blogs that had animations in the side panel that were distracting and then just continued on blogs that didn’t) and the sidebar nearly always drops to the bottom, this is especially true of my own theme, Chateau. I don’t actually mind it.

Hope you feel better soon, TT.

  3. it’s the same in the Chateau theme TT. I asked Support about it and got the same reply, that’s why I put more Pages on my blog, so they would give readers a way to access other categories of posts, from the top of the first screen they see. I think it’s a poor design choice myself and we should have been given the option to choose whether we want it or not. Keep meaning to change themes again but haven’t got round to it :) Hope all’s well!

    • Hi Joanna,

When it comes to using responsive wdith themes we have to adapt. Index Pages are becoming are more important in terms of making content accesible to readers in resposnive width themes due to the positioning of widgets at the bottom of the page rather than on the side (right or left).

P.S. My cold is still hanging in. I’m very tired but happily focused on my income earning work which has deadlines that I must meet. :)
