Technorati has been making some changes affecting Technorati authority numbers and I’m sure we all have witnessed them.
The changes appear to be following the pace Google has set with changes to their algorithm as well. Mile long blogroll links and reciprocal links to non-related sites have less value and less authority. Where we ought to be focusing our energy now is on Link Building Strategies as what Google is looking for is natural linking patterns.
What Technorati has changed and what you can do about it follows:
Why Your Technorati Authority May Have Changed, and What You Can Do About It
Changes in Technorati Authority numbers – there are several reasons these numbers have decreased recently:
As our intent is to measure the influence and attention received on an ongoing basis, we stopped counting static blogroll links, and these links have now aged out of the authority calculations.
Due to the vast number of blogging platforms and custom installations out there (and some bloggers who felt we were using too much of their data), we now rely more heavily on RSS and Atom feeds than in the past. Bloggers can control how much of their content they wish to syndicate via feeds. Many blogs only provide partial feeds, we are not always able to get link data from them. Thus, links from these blogs may no longer contribute to your authority.
Finally, to make sure we always know about your updates, please make sure you are pinging us. You can ping us manually from our Ping Page, or learn about configuring your system to ping us automatically on our Help Page. Many blogging services and platforms have a preconfigured option for pinging Technorati and other services.
If you find links to your blog that don’t appear on Technorati, you may want to check that the other blog:
- is claimed on Technorati
- has a full-content feed
- is pinging us with updates.

Hi
I’m hooked, but I can’t see the ‘read more’ tag.
“What Technorati has changed and what you can do about it found after the read more tag.”

The read more tag only appears on the front page as what’s there is an excerpt and you have to click the “read more” http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2009/09/19/technorati-tune-up/#more-3967 to get to the full article on it’s own page. Alternatively, you can simply click the post title to get to the full article on it’s own page.

Ah, I came here direct from the tweet; hence the confusion.
Any tips on how to gain more authority on Technorati?

I changed it right after I read your comment so others wouldn’t experience the same problem. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Time as changed i guess it only make sense that technorati more with technology linking should carry the same weight everywhere both google technorati bing or anywhere its used that will give you site the same ranking across the board

I think we have all come to discount Technorati over the years simply because although it is the largest blog directory claiming a blog there rarely produced any inflow of traffic. I think that now the sleeping dragon has awoken we are bound to see even further harmonization along the line that you suggest.
IMO the largest adjustment to me made by bloggers is to get out of the rut of discounting Technorati. It’s amazing how few bloggers I have spoken to are aware of any of the changes.
