My tiny dog, who has been my constant companion for 14 years is dying. I have been nursing her 24 hours every day for more than 3 weeks now and I believe today is the day that she will pass over. I’m holding her until she goes and therefore I will not be blogging until tomorrow. I apologize for all the unanswered comments. I just cannot cope with them right now.

Really sad to read of this. Our cats are both old, and one of these days we’ll be facing the same. Anyone who puts a pet’s death into a lesser category than that of a human death has never truly loved, and been loved, by their pet. There is something beyond human to human communication that we experience with an animal who lives with us that is incomparable, a transcendent experience which is humbling. Grieving a pet’s passing is every bit as intense and long-lived as grieving the loss of a child, sibling, parent, or friend.

So sorry to read this. I have two cats aged 13 and 15 and cherish each day they are still healthy and happy. I know how lucky I am to have had them in my life for so long. My heart sincerely goes out to you.

I know how you feel. My cat of 16 years passed January 2008. Unless someone has been through the experience, it’s sometimes hard to understand. Take your time grieving and remember the unconditional love that you received from your pet all those many years.

I’m remembering those happy times now and trying to make the adjustment. It’s difficult because my dog was very small and a constant companion who spent a great deal of time on my lap.

I have lost family members and I have lost human friends and animal friends too. My little dog was a member of my family and I find that the grief I am experiencing is the same as when I lost human family members and friends.

I know what you’re going through and I almost burst out in tears thinking how I’d be feeling if I was confronting the loss of my 2 furkids. May you find peace of mind in all this emotional turmoil. So sad to read about your dog. Our sweet, old, boy, Jack died last September. His death has left a huge hole in our lives. There’s a site http://www.peternity.com that offers some healing tips…as cliché as it sounds, time is healing our pain even though he made a permanent mark on our hearts and will never be forgotten.
