Hello there,
Pleased to meet you here on my blog. If you are so inclined to avoid "whiteness" you could choose a theme that allows for both a custom header and either a custom color or image background. Best wishes with your blog. :)

Thanks for this post. I see I still need to do even more tweaking. I tend to go for the darker colors only because I dislike white. To me it reminds me of apartment walls and cold snow. But I aim to please as wide an audiance as possible so, I must put on my thinking cap. Ill also add a reply to your comment over at the forum.

Thx for pulling up this article from the archival list. Appropriate when newest blog posts have been about changing themes.

Red-green colour theme and particularily for critical markings should be thought through carefully. In some industries, it is important. I met an engineer who was unable to distinguish red-green colours. It affects distinguishing traffic signals, reading marked-up engineering drawing details, etc.

That being said, perhaps my blogs aren't entirely exempt from making it more challenging for red-green colour combination weaknesses for visual acuity.

If one's blog has a business purpose, where the aim is to captivate and hold the reader to read the blog's text, then a black background with white text, is tougher on the reader.

We now have to think of handheld mobile devices accessing the Internet. Why strain the client's/reader's effort to read?

Exception would be for photo galleries and simply shots of artwork with hardly any text.

In choosing presentation templates, blog backgrounds, etc. I try to consider calm background colours and font colours that have adequate contrast without hurting the eyes.

There is an emotional play on the subconscious. Since our blogs are on cycling, everything related to it except for racing/competitive cycling, it was better we go in the direction of colours and themes that suggest neutrality, and yes, "greening".

The use of colour for electronic product design is one area I enjoy exploring and learning.
