All bloggers are seeking out social media sites. Blog Catalog is a premium blog directory and social networking site with over 200,000 members.
Whether you are looking to search blogs, connect with bloggers, or promote your own blog, BlogCatalog is for you.
(1) Registration is free and if you intend to register as a guest, or as a member and/or submit your site(s) then there are some important things to know in advance.
(2) Your e-mail address will not be sold, traded, or shown publicly.
(3) Certain kinds of sites will not be accepted if submitted.
- No Solely Commercial or Pornographic Material
- RSS feeds or individual blog articles/entries will not be accepted into the directory.
(4) The Terms of Service clarify what is considered to be Prohibited Content and the kind of activity that is illegal or prohibited on the BlogCatalog Website and through your use of the BlogCatalog Services.
(5) There is a General Discussion forum and Political Discussion forum.
- There are community guidelines for posting to both forums that must be respected.
- Signature blocks are not allowed, so if your are looking for an opportunity to post to a forum solely to drop your blog links into every comment you make, do be aware that your link dropping will be reported and your comment along with the signature block will be deleted by Admin.
(6) Blog Catalog is also the sponsor of Blogger’s unite which is an attempt to harness the power of the blogosphere to make the world a better place. By asking bloggers to write about a particular subject on 1 day of the month, a single voice can be joined with thousands to help make a difference; from raising awareness for cancer, to an effort to better education systems or supporting 3rd world countries.

I believe that Blog Catalog is the best social network I belong to and I do belong to several others as well.

It has certainly brought much benefit to me and my blog. After parting ways with another forum I used to visit, I needed a place where I could hang out. BlogCatalog seems to be it. And it is currently my blog’s top reader/traffic source.
By the way, in previous challenges list, I think the first one there should be 2008. Next December is still a ways ahead ;)

I agree that Blog Catalog is one of the best of the best in blog social networking. It has lots of things to do to promote your blog, and to help and encourage others with their blogs.
I really enjoy the discussion boards, you get to know people better and make new friends. I have met some fantastic bloggers from this network that I wouldn’t give up for anything.
The administration is on top of things all the time, and are so nice and friendly to everyone. It is a great place to network with other bloggers, and to relax and enjoy reading the hundreds upon hundreds of subject choices in blogs

Excellent article highlighting the benefits of Blog Catalog. They have certainly been an instrumental resource for the evolution of my blog in so many ways, including networking myself as a committed blogger.
Although there is a degree of commercial interest attached to my blog, I blog out of a sincere passion for blogging and for my niche, mind/body/soul spirituality.

This is a very good reason for me to use BC more. To be honest I just joined and haven’t really had as much time as I’d have liked to get involved other than add friends and blogs. I look forward to becoing more involved and meeting more bloggers. Thanks for posting this.

I can honestly say that Blog catalog has been one of the most beneficial websites I have the pleasure of being a part of. I have learned a lot in the few months that I have been blogging and I look forward to more experiences and learning a lot more in 2009!

Catablog has benefited me to make so many new friends. The society helped to understand what blogging was all about.
The profile features really enabled me to check my groups and my friends’ new posts as well as keeping in touch with the latest social book marking sites :)

BC is the only blogging social networking site that I visit regularly–which says something right there. I have learned an enormous amount from the bloggers that post on the discussion forum there (particularly YOU I might add! :-) Like you, I have also formed some great online friendships, which I really value.
I appreciate the attitude of the folks who run BC–they are like-minded with me and I appreciate their stake in promoting “Bloggers Unite” which I feel is important for a social networking site.
I’ve been so busy lately that I just haven’t had the time to spend on the forum as much–and I miss it!

BlogCatalog has such a great team – I’ve had the opportunity to meet a few of them briefly in person and have been able to talk at length by phone with their CEO, Tony Berkman. Extremely smart and generous man. They have a great vision for what BlogCatalog and Bloggers Unite can achieve, and they have the smarts to put it all into action.

And I also agree that Admin at BC are wonderful people too. The combination of good people, excellent features and opportunities to network effectively make BC my first choice in social media sites.

BC has been excellent to me. I joined the community two-three days ago and within that short span I’ve learned volumes that would probably have taken me ages had I not joined the community. It’s people like you, timethief, who make BC worth the time for any blogger.

Here’s a late comment — without BlogCatalog, I wouldn’t have met you, or Melinda, or Robin, or The Fearless Blog, or Nards, or Just Bob. I am not a huge participant there (have to follow through on my goal to write more reviews for some of the many blogs I read and love), but it’s been a wonderful way to network and form some great relationships.

I personally joined BC two months ago, and I believe that I have not gain any benefit from it. Their website was a bit heavy to load, and my 256kbps internet connection found it really difficult to access. It stopped me from being active there. Any advice?

I’m sorry but I don’t have any advice to give you regarding the page loading time. I do know that there are over 200,000 BC members and that the servers are always coping with a heavy load.
