A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an 80×80 pixel avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites. Yes I did notice that. However, when I registered for my gravatars I found that using a 128 pixel x 128 pixel images meant that the images needed cropping. So I used 100 pixel x 100 pixel images instead and, they worked very well.

In Matt’s announcement on the Gravatar Blog, he mentioned that the size will be increased to 128x128px, which is what is in use here on wp.com. :)

Is only wordpress doing this? I get a lot of commentators from other blogs (not wordpress) who have no avatars and the recent comments section tends to look rather drab. people who comment from live journal have an avatar, but not from blogger.
