Linking your wordpress.com username to your wordpress.com blog is the best free advertising you can get.
Provided that you are signed into wordpress.com when you leave a comment on a wordpress.com blog then every other person who is also signed on to wordpress.com will be able to click your wordpress.com username (which is linked to your blog) and arrive on the front page of your blog.
The added benefit is that staff will also be able to locate the blog linked to your name with a single click if you ever need an adjustment made to your blog.
It’s very easy to do. Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.
Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.
Note that there is a complete record of every post that you make to the forum on your forum profile page. Also note that when you mark a forum threads as “favorites” that you will find them listed on the forum profile page too. And everyone in the forum can access your forum profile by simply clicking on “Member” next to your username.

If only on the forum sign up page it would already explain the difference between WP.com and WP.org and redirect those who need assistance with the standalone version of WP to WP.org.
In my book, you forum volunteers qualify for sainthood. :)

@Richard,
I’m playing catch up now that I have the time to do so. Thanks for stopping in. :)

@jennifer
I think you should submit your idea to staff. It’s a good one.
Thanks for your supportive comment about volunteers. It’s too bad everyone doesn’t share your point of view. ;)

Provided you are signed in to wordpress.com and are leaving a comment on a wordpress.com then then anyone else who is also signed into to wordpress.com can click your username and arive on the front page of your blog.
I do not know what you mean by “wordpress website listed”. There is no list of wordpress.com blogs that bloggers have access to. By assigning categories to your posts the posts will display on the wordpress.com category tag pages. Is this what you mean?
If not then please clarify.

Thanks, I’m hoping this answers my question of why my id on other’s blog’s comment sections do not provide a way back to my blog. I have been leaving comments but then checking back when not logged in, I am unable to jump to my wordpress blog. It used to work. Do you agree that it only needed my profile to have the wordpress website listed? Thanks

No sorry, I meant that in the box for my website, I should type my wordpress blog url. not a ‘list’, I guess I should have said ‘type in the box’ (where you write: “In the right hand column locate “Website” and type in the link to your wordpresss.com “) It just seems wierd to have a spot in my profile to type my wordpress blog when I’m already in it.
I thought I was logged into wordpress when I made the comments. My avatar shows with my comment, my id shows, but it’s not able to link back to my blog. It even shows up in my dashboard as a place I commented. So how did I break the link? it works here, I see. THANKS!

Go into the admin side of your blog and click “Users” and then “Your Profile” and then you should be able to edit. Don’t forget to click “Update Profile” when you are done to save the changes. Also note that if you have more than one blog you can only link one to your username.

hmm this didn’t seem to work for, when I went to “Your Profile” I already had a primary blog selected, but none of my comments are lining back to my blog

Oh think you have to type the address in the website field not choose the primary blog?

Dashboard –> Users –> Your Profile. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Primary Blog’ and type in the address of your blog and then click ‘Update Profile’. Once you’re done click “Update Profile”.

Thanks so much for the help. I linked to this article on the WordPress.com forum, in a question that someone else had asked that was similar to my problem. I asked for help there too, but actually found this blog(before my question was answered in the forum) by accident while reading through unrelated topics in the forum area. Thanks again, I have been enjoying all your articles and resources. See you on WordPress!
